Element 2: Water Quality Monitoring & Modelling

Results from the water quality monitoring and modelling programme will be used as input to inform the WQIP and will include as its main components:
- An integrated water quality monitoring programme including strategic event monitoring in 2006/07 and 2007/08 ‘wet seasons’. The programme records and identifies existing scientific and community-based water quality information, programs and resources and is coordinated by the Australian Centre for Tropical Freshwater Research (ACTFR);
- Modelling to establish pollutant loading;
- Identification of complementary elements between WQIP, Stormwater Framework and Water Sensitive Urban Design;
- Monitoring/modelling of existing gross pollutant trap (GPT) wetland structures to ascertain efficiency and effectiveness;
- Establishment of a report card format detailing catchment condition.
Final Products:
- Preparation of a Coastal Dry Tropics guide for Urban Water Quality Management as a sub-component of the Water Quality Improvement Plan for the Townsville Thuringowa sub-catchment
- A Stormwater Code for utilisation and standardisation of planning approval processes
- An Integrated Water Quality Monitoring Programme for the Townsville-Thuringowa sub catchments
